Spring is a great time of year in Central Oregon! The longer days, steadily improving trail conditions and of course it is also the time to renew your COTA membership! This year more than ever before we are relying on our members for support as we are about to purchase a significant asset. Thanks to Oregon State Parks' Recreational Trails Program we have a grant to complete the trail system in the Wanoga project. However this grant comes with a catch; we have to raise not only matching funds but also matching labor in order to be reimbursed by the grant. This new machine, a Ditch Witch SK650 mini skid-steer is going to cost COTA about $26,000 and we need to pay for it up front. Suffice to say this will put COTA's cash reserve in a precarious place. Your membership contribution will help us ride through to the end of June, when the grant reimbursement comes in. You'll also have the satisfaction of knowing you are helping with the maintenance and construction of over 300 miles of trails, all right out your back door!
Thank you very much for your support! |

Trail Work Event | |
Get off Your Rumps And Build Some Jumps Event - Saturday, April 24th
Central Oregon Trail Alliance is announcing the first trail work party of the 2010 season: The second annual Get off Your Rumps, & Build Some Jumps event. Held at The Lair, this will be a community effort to continue renovations of the existing terrain at this progressive skills park. Come join COTA to clean up, repair and improve the flow of the Lair, as well as help with some preventive knapweed removal. COTA will supply tools, direction and refreshments. Bring your friends and family to help contribute.
Those of you who have ridden the Lair realize the potential of this terrain, but upkeep, maintenance, and further improvements are needed to keep this area running all season long. We will meet up at The Lair at 8:45 a.m. to provide instruction, and shortly after the work will begin. The work party will go from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a barbeque and jump jam. So come on out on April 24th, with nothing more than a positive attitude and motivation to contribute to the improvement of this mountain bike playground. We'll see you there! Sisters Trail Alliance / Friends of the Forest Work Event - Saturday, April 24th
That time of year has returned, trail work season! Over the last two years together we have done a stupendous amount of work, 20 miles in 20 months (April 08-Nov 09). So, good news, the really heavy lifting is over, for the time being.
This year we are doubling up with the National Forest Foundation (again) to work on several projects. I will lead a group to repair and partially re-route a section of the Peterson Ridge Trail. Gene Trahern is taking a group to work on some of the trails near Whychus Creek, and Gary Guttormsen and others are leading litter clean-up efforts between town and Crossroads and elsewhere.
Spring Fling - Saturday, May 22nd Come join your friendly COTA trailbuilders as we kick off the trail building season with an emphasis on our newest trail network, the Wanoga Complex. COTA will supply tools, direction, and refreshments. CLICK HERE to review all the upcoming trail work events, trail building training and other exciting events! |

Reminder: Work Event Requirements |
|
In order to ensure the outmost safety of all our volunteers, COTA would like to remind everyone about the rules for Work Events.
All COTA trail work events require the following safety measures:
All participants are required to have the following protective clothing and equipment:
- Sturdy shoes or boots
- Gloves
- Eye protection with clear or light colored lens
- Long pants
- Please bring a hydration pack with water and a snack.
- Be sure to bring appropriate layers to accommodate whatever the weather may be.
Due to COTA's insurance requirements and the inherent dangers of trail work we must implement the following policy regarding children at work events:
- For anyone 14 years of age or younger, we require one parent, guardian or responsible adult for supervision of every four kids attending any COTA trail work events.
- All minors under the age of 18 must have their parent or their guardian available to sign our waiver.
Anyone who arrives for a work event may be turned away if they can not meet the above requirements.
Thanks in advance to adhering to the requirements! |
