THANK YOU!

A huge THANKS goes out to all the Spring Fling volunteers and sponsors.  With your help, we were able to build a significant section of the Steve Larsen trail in the Wanoga area.  We logged 675 hours towards our state grant.  It is truly amazing what a large group can do.

If you weren't there, a little glimpse of the action on Saturday to go from absolutely no trail to trail in a single day:

Team One:  Designates the trail through immense forest with flags and ribbons.
Team Two:  An impressive team of sawyers came through to clear the trees.
Team Three:  Walked through and moved all the brush and downed logs out of the way.
Team Four: With axes and a lot of muscle work, took out stumps in the way.
Team Five:  With the handy McLeod, cleared the duff for the trail single track.
Team Six:  Raked down the newly formed trail.

Then....we GOT TRAIL.

Thank you sponsors - BendBroadband, U.S. Bank, REI, Pine Mountain Sports, Deschutes Brewery and Cog Wild Bicycle Tours.

New Sponsor

COTA announces a multi-year partnership with BendBroadband

Last week COTA and BendBroadband signed a three year agreement for sponsorship that includes a $5000 cash donation to COTA each year! This money will go a long way towards improving trails and signage throughout our local riding area. We will also be producing and broadcasting a simple message from COTA on trail etiquette and a call for membership. Don't be surprised if you see the "local dog" stickers on COTA's tools and equipment, COTA loves this partnership and we're looking forward to working with BendBroadband to further promote our mission. Please join us in sending a collective "Thank you" to the fine folks at BendBroadband for their visionary support of COTA!

Steve Larsen Trailhead

COTA is pleased to report forward progress in developing a Kiosk and re-naming the biking trail head at Wanoga as a Memorial for late Bend resident and former pro cyclist, Steve Larsen. Last fall over 70 of Steve's friends and family members came out to help create a new trail in Steve's name and we are working with this group to organize another fall trail work event. Also, COTA has received a large donation to help provide funds for creating the new kiosk which will include a biography on Steve. If you would like more information on this project or wish to make a donation to help, please send an email to Woody, COTA's Chairman:

Reminder:  Work Event Requirements

In order to ensure the outmost safety of all our volunteers, COTA would like to remind everyone about the rules for Work Events.

All COTA trail work events require the following safety measures:

  •  Please bring a hydration pack with water and a snack.
  •  Be sure to bring appropriate layers to accomodate whatever the weather may be.

All participants are required to have the following protective clothing and equipment:

  • Sturdy shoes or boots
  • Gloves
  • Eye protection with clear or light colored lens
  • Long pants

Due to COTA's insurance requirements and the inherent dangers of trail work we must implement the following policy regarding children at work events:

For anyone 14 years of age or younger, we require one parent, guardian or responsible adult for supervision of every four kids attending any COTA trail work events.
  • All minors under the age of 18 must have their parent or their guardian available to sign our waiver.

Anyone who arrives for a work event may be turned away if they can not meet the above requirements.

Thanks in advance to adhering to the requirements!
